Fights and Close Calls
We had three tight games in last night’s action. In the first game, We Got the Runs jumped out to an early lead. Just the Tip turned their attention to getting one run to prevent the shutout, but they couldn’t go it. WGTR would win via mercy rule.
Win or Lose We Booze and the Mile High Sluggers played a rare complete seven inning game. Booze had the lead after five innings, but the Sluggers slowly came back and tied it up. In the bottom of the seventh, Booze just needed to score their runner on first to win the game, but the Sluggers pulled off a nice double play to kill the momentum. The next batter got out to end the game with a tie.
The third game could be described with almost every adjective in the dictionary. With a total of 53 runners crossing the plate, not many innings were played. Both teams averaged 6 runs/ inning, After three innings and forty minutes of play, the away team, Rhetorical Question, still had a six run lead. Since there was still a lot of time on the clock, but probably not enough for both teams to bat without going over the time limit, the teams were flip-flopped. Rhetorical Question became the home team and Do I Make You Randy became the away team for the last inning. RQ only needed to record three outs and they would win the game. But Do I Make You Randy was not done yet; they hit the ball and ended up scoring 12 runs to take a six run lead. In the bottom half, RQ started their comeback, scoring three runs with only one out. But then a batter threw a bat which hit the catcher. After being warned in the second inning for throwing the bat, the batter was called out. With two outs, Rhetorical Question’s momentum was squashed and they ended up losing by three.
In the last game, Dolls & Balls jumped out to an early lead against the undefeated Slap a Pitch. It was 11-3 before Slap a Pitch started to come back. Tim hit a couple homeruns to right field to help SAP take the lead. With a four run lead heading into the last inning, Balls & Dolls started their comeback. They ended up scoring two runs. The last batter hit a grounder to short stop for a bang-bang play. The umpire called him out to end the game. Too bad Sports Monster doesn’t have instant reply, because he needed another angle on that.
