Season is Underway
The Coed basketball league is underway, and it’s going to be a great one! With seven full teams signed up, it is definitely one of the premier leagues in Denver. The BUMS won the first game of the season over BALL SO HARD. The BUMS’ Victoria Hodges was player of the game with deadly long range missiles from beyond the arc.

The MAGIC JOHNSONS took down DAHNTAY’S PEAK. The MJs made a statement that they will be a team to reckon with.

The SQUAD had a double-header to open up the season. It didn’t seem to faze them that much. With only one female showing up, they had to play 4 players for both of their games. They beat DUNCAN’S DONUTS in the first game and then MONTAY’S INFERNO for the second.

Three Teams (2-0)
The MAGIC JOHNSONS improved to (2-0) on the season with their mercy rule enforced victory over MONTAY’S INFERNO. MI drops to (0-2).

MONTAY’S INFERNO had to play their double header of the season, so they played BALL SO HARD. BALL SO HARD won the game and improved to (1-1). MI dropped to (0-3).

The SQUAD beat DAHNTAY’S PEAK in a close one. With the time running out, PEAK decided to play the game straight up and not foul. They were able to get a steal, but weren’t able to close the 10 point lead.

The BUMS won their game with the DUNCAN’S DONUTS to improve to (2-0). This was the most physical game so far. After two weeks, we have three undefeated teams. Something’s got to give.

Battle of Unbeatens
It looked like the teams took off their tutus and got down and dirty. BALL SO HARD was the unlucky team that had to play their double-header. They started the night off with DUNCAN’S DONUTS. The game was tight throughout, but in the final minutes BSH got four points ahead and took the win. It didn’t help that DD only had five players show up.

For their second game, they took on the MAGIC JOHNSON’S. The MJ’S came into the game undefeated. BALL SO HARD led for most of the game, but the MJ’s came back in the last quarter to win by nine and improved their record to (3-0).

For the last game, it was a battle of unbeatens. The BUMS and THE SQUAD played toe to toe throughout the entire game. In the last quarter, the BUMS started to pull ahead and even got up by 9 points. But in the last minutes, the SQUAD put on a full-court press that brought them back into it. They cut the lead to 1 point, but could not make the tying free throw. The SQUAD had one last effort from 40 feet that went off the backboard to end the game. The BUMS are now (3-0) and the SQUAD is (3-1).

Make sure you register for the upcoming flag football, whiffle ball, and Halloween kickball tournaments!

DAHNTAY’S PEAK got their first win of the season. It was also the first win for a free agent team in this league. It was the BUMS first loss of the season, bringing their record to (3-1). DP has moved to (1-3).

The SQUAD moved to (4-1) on the year with their victory over BALL SO HARD. BSH came into the game with an even (2-2) record, but the loss will drop them under .500. A lot of teams had byes this week.

Hurry up and register for the Zombie Kickball Tournament on October 25, 2015 at Barnum Park. There will be prizes for the best costumes as well as a pig roast at the Classic Tavern after the game.

Dahntay's Peak
Magic Johnsons Win Again
DAHNTAY’S PEAK and DUNCAN’S DONUTS had a gritty game on Monday. PEAK had the lead for most of the second half, but DD came back in the final two minutes to tie it up. Both teams figured there would be overtime, but there isn’t any in the regular season. So they ended in a tie.

DAHNTAY’S PEAK had to play a double header, so they took on BALL SO HARD. BSH didn’t hold anything back and ended up getting the twenty point victory. BSH improves to (3-3). PEAK drops to (1-3-1).

In the third game, THE MAGIC JOHNSONS remained undefeated with their high powered form of play. They remain undefeated with their victory over the SQUAD. The SQUAD is still in second place with their (4-2) record.

In the last game, it was the BUMS beating MONTAY’S INFERNO. The game was tied at halftime, but then the BUMS took off and won by double digits. The BUMS are (4-1) while MI drops to (0-4).

Duncan's Donuts Win First Game
DUNCAN’S DONUTS and DAHNTAY’S PEAK had a rematch from last week. Last week they ended up tying. This week, DD played harder. They realized that getting a win was in their grasps. They led throughout most of the game. PEAK tried coming back in the last few minutes but it wouldn’t be enough. DD would get their first win of the season, improving to (1-4-1).

PEAK would have a double-header. They took on the second place SQUAD. The SQUAD looked really fresh and took advantage of PEAK’S tired legs. The SQUAD got up by a lot of points and wouldn’t lose that lead. They would win the game and improve to (5-2) on the year. PEAK dropped to fifth place at (1-4-1).

The undefeated MAGIC JOHNSONS took on MONTAY’S INFERNO for the third game of the night. INFERNO had some new players join the team which helped them out a lot. The MJS played three girls and two guys for the first 30 minutes of the game. But they were down by twelve points, so they decided to switch it up. They brought in another guy so both teams played 3m/2f. The lead slowly dwindled down until the MJS took the lead. INFERNO wouldn’t come back, but it was by far their best game of the year. They are now (0-5) and they will play their double-header next week.

BALL SO HARD was late getting to the gym, so they lost five minutes of game time. They took on the MJS, the team that just finished. The MJS wasted little time and built up a lead quick. Farber kept BSH in the game with a string of buckets. But it wouldn’t be enough, as the MJS would go on to win by a wide margin and remain undefeated. BSH would drop to (3-4).

MJs Take Number One Seed
Montay’s Inferno couldn’t field a team, so they ended up forfeiting their double-header. That’s really a shame, as there hadn’t been a forfeit all season. They finished the season at (0-7), but they’re really not that bad. They could easily beat most of the teams, but they’ll be taking on the number two seed in the first round.

Duncan’s Donuts and Dahntay’s Peak both ended the season with identical (2-4-1) records. Peak edged out Donuts in the standings by four points!

The Squad and the Bums played in the third game of the night. The Bums took off to a great start. They were up 16-32 in the first half, but the Squad started to come back at the end of the half. Candice M hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to bring the Squad within 11 points. In the third quarter, the Squad outhustled the Bums and took the lead. The game was even throughout the fourth quarter, but in the final minutes the Squad took the lead and wouldn’t lose it. They ended up winning by four points to improve to (6-2).

The Bums had to play their double-header. They took on the undefeated Magic Johnsons. This game was a well played game by both teams. It was a very slow and meticulous game, which made for some great basketball. The Bums took the lead early and never really gave it back up. The MJs played catch-up all the way until the final seconds. The MJs hit a long range three pointer with 10 seconds left to tie the game up at 41. Kevin got the ball for the Bums and got a clean 18 foot shot but it didn’t drop. So the game ended in a tie. The MJs ended with a (6-0-1) record and the Bums ended in the regular season at (4-2-1).

The playoff bracket will be scheduled on Friday-determined by the eligibility of teams.

Peak, Ball So Hard Advance
The playoffs are underway! In the 4 vs 5 matchup it was two familiar foes. Dahntay’s Peak and Duncan’s Donuts have played the last three weeks in a row. This match would make it four! DD was missing their long range assassin which really hurt them. Whip B took care of the paint. Peak got off to a good lead in the first half and never really looked back. They won the game to advance to the semifinal against the Magic Johnson’s next week.

In the other game, Montay’s Inferno didn’t have enough players, so they ended up forfeiting. Ball So Hard will advance to play the Bums in the semifinal.

Magic Johnsons Win Championship
It was the last night of the season, as both of the semifinals and the finals were played to end the Coed League. In the first semifinal, the number four seeded Dahntay’s Peak took on the top rated Magic Johnsons. Whip B led the way for Peak, keeping the game close throughout. The Magic Johnsons started to pull away in the last minutes. With time running out, Peak decided not to try to come back via fouling. They ended up losing by five points. Magic Johnsons would advance to the championship.

In the second semifinal, the number three ranked Ball So Hard took on number two Bums. The Bums have been the better team throughout the year, but BSH came out on fire. BSH had the lead throughout most of the game. With six minutes left, the Bums started their comeback. But it was quickly thwarted by Katie A’s three pointer in the corner. From that spark, BSH would hit four more three pointers to increase their lead to ten points. The Bums couldn’t come back from that deficit and lost by nine points.

The Magic Johnsons were waiting in the championship. They jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first few minutes. It looked like it was going to be a cakewalk. But Ball So Hard answered with a streak of nine points to get closer. Then Magic scored six in a row to make it 18-9. From then on, both teams scored back and forth, without any big scoring streaks. The Magic Johnsons would win the game by a score of 40-32.

Thanks for the great season! Winter registration will be opening soon!
